Food Allergies

Canine food hypersensitivity usually affects "ears and rears." If your dog has skin problems in this area, it is almost certainly because he is allergic to something. The most common suspects would be fleas and or diet.

Many of the less expensive dog foods contain a lot of corn. Many dogs are sensitive to corn. A change in food would be the first thing to try (after you are sure the problem is not those dreaded fleas). We strongly recommend feeding a premium food. Sure, that bag costs a little more initially, but when you amortize it out, you are only paying pennies a day.

Be careful when changing brands of food. Add a little of the new food to the old, gradually increasing the amount of the new food.  Sneak up on the complete change. A rapid change in food can cause gastric upset and, quite often, diarrhea.

If this does not solve your problem see allergies.
