Harlequin Haven Great Dane Rescue
I was dumped 4 days before Christmas and it was probably the BEST Christmas present I could have received! I will let you pick which story to believe of why I was dumped but PLEASE don't feel sorry for me I have never had it so good!!! The first story was told to Grandma at the rescue: A portion of the fence fell down and I walked out of the yard and scared a delivery person. The second story was told to the Dog Warden: My owners purchased a NEW Great Dane Puppy for Christmas and I would not share my dog house with it! The third story was told to a friend of the rescue: My owners could no longer afford to take care of me. Now for some facts: My owners refused to put me in their car to bring me to the rescue, the WONDERFUL Adams County Dog Warden came to our house and picked me up to bring me to the rescue!! According to them I was TOO BIG to get in their car!! They had a chain link fence in good condition, just ask the dog warden if you do not believe me, so HOW did I just walk threw the fence?? When my owner was asked if I was housetrained she replied that a Great Dane was too big to be in the house! I was not even allowed on the back porch! I have NEVER been inside a house NOR have I ever been to a vet except to get my ears cropped! When she was asked what color I was, neither her or her husband could answer that simple question! I came to the rescue wearing a pinch collar that was close to being embedded in my neck, it took grandma at the rescue 30 minutes to get it off me! I have pressure sores all over my legs from not having proper bedding! I am filthy and have never had a bath!! (Grandma says I get a bath today I can't wait!!) To look at me I appear to be 10 years old yet I am only 4 years old!! I am a far cry from what a Great Dane should look like but I have a big heart and tons of love to give!! Being dumped was the best thing that could have happened to me and NOW I am going to enjoy living for the first time in my life!! I want to thank the Adams County Dog Warden, you my sir are Dogs Best Friend!! Update: I had my bath
and WOW was that great!!! I enjoyed every minute of it!! Grandma cleaned
my ears the best she could till I started crying from the pain of the
infection, then she put medicine in my ears and told me we could work on
them more later! Then she cut my nails well until I would not let her
touch my left front leg!! When she looked closer she saw why I was
complaining so much. My dew claw was embedded in the pad! Grandma told
me I had to be tough but in the end I would feel better so I gritted my
teeth and she cut the dew claw and pulled it out of the pad! As bad as
it felt she was right it felt much better then!! Next week I will get
blood work done to see if I have heartworm or any other health issues.
But for now Grandma said I need to rest so I went back to my room and
found all clean blankets and some kind of funny looking hard bone shaped
thing. Grandma told me it was a dog biscuit and that I should try it and
HEY it was tasty!! Well I am going to take a nap now I am exhausted!

ups of my legs! Update January 13: The second set of test results came back better so I am staying on antibiotics for another week then I will be retested again. I continue to feel better each day!! Update March 17: I am all well now and ready for adoption!! Okay who wants a middle aged man that looks old???? I sure would love a forever home with a really soft couch!!! Please can you spare a
few dollars to help the Rescue continue to help me and other Danes like
me it would be greatly appreciated.
