I am the result of a BYB (backyard breeder) selling for profit!  I was sold when I was 8 weeks old to a USDA Class B Dealer , Tracy's K & J Pets, in Fair Grove, MO. (Cert. No. 43-B-0015), then I was shipped to a pet store for resale. I thought I was one of the lucky ones to get a forever home, but I was wrong!  When my life-long canine companion died my owners got a new small mix breed puppy. I was less then thrilled to have this puppy jumping on me, so my owners decided that I had to go!! After all these years I was disposable? How could they dump me and keep the puppy instead?

I am not sure who contacted who, but a local rescue heard of my plight, contacted my owners, and asked them to please give them some time to find a Dane rescue to help me. But my owners gave them less then 24 hours! They said they were leaving on vacation and if I was not gone they would NOT pay for me to be boarded. They would instead take me to the Van Wert County Animal Shelter to be euthanized in a gas chamber, that they weren't spending any more money on me!

My owners did not care how scared I would be, they did not care that I had been a faithful companion for many years.  They forgot all about the good times teaching me to shake hands, to speak, to even lick my lips when I drooled. They forgot all of this and only remembered that now that I am a senior that I may have an occasional accident and need senior food not cheap "Old Roy" dog food.

Luckily the local rescue people contacted HHGDR and they agreed to take me. The next day I was transported to Harlequin Haven.  I was terrified at first but all the volunteers kept telling me that it would be okay that I would NEVER have to worry again!!  I would get the medical care, food, and love that I so desperately needed! After a few hours and a good meal I began to relax. I laid down on a nice soft dog bed and realized that I was now receiving the love, hugs, and kisses that I deserve and had longed for.

Some of the people that helped with my rescue say that they don't want my old owners to know where I am, they don't want them to know that I am now safe. But I want them to know!! I want them to know that when they turned their backs on me like I was a piece of trash that some wonderful people cared enough to change their plans, and cancel their family outings to save my life and to make sure that I was safe and happy!!! I am now with people that care about me!!

My only regret is leaving that poor puppy behind, yes, it was a pain but God forbid it should grow old and be dumped!! My prayers will be with you little one! I pray that when you become old that some wonderful rescue people will jump in and save your life!! You know the old saying "a leopard can't change his spots." To my previous parents please read "Letter from your old dog".

I was only at the rescue a short time when a wonderful family came to visit.  They brought their 3 four-legged children with them to see if we all would get along and well the rest is history.
